In early 2016, the Pine Ridge Roping Club, a long standing registered not-for-profit organization whose focus is on team roping in Cranbrook, took upon a large project to restore the Wycliffe Exhibition Grounds in Cranbrook.
The restoration project focused on the replacing the existing footing of the 40,000 sq. foot arena, and adapting the arena so that the Roping Club could utilize it through building a stripping chute and a steer run back.
The project cost was $21,557, we were successful in obtaining a grant through Columbia Basin Trust and the Regional District of East Kootenay in the amount of approximately $15,257. The remaining $6,300, costs of supplies, labour and equipment, was generously donated through in kind contributions through individuals members, community business,’ and community members.
Wycliffe Exhibition Grounds is now hosting equine events multiple times a month by various clubs and organizations, and is being utilized on a daily basis.
We would like to thank the local business’ that supported the project; Williams Moving and Storage, Mackay Trucking, AMZ Excavating, K.W.R and Sandor Rentals, not to mention all the hours and equipment invested by the members of Pine Ridge Roping Club.
Wycliffe Exhibition Grounds is a public facility managed through the RDEK and is open for all community members to enjoy.
