Sam Steele shuttle partner sought

The Sam Steele Society is seeking a festival partner to help finance the Sam Steele Express Shuttle service that provides free transportation to registered designated venues throughout the city on Saturday, June 17, the busiest night of the festival.

The shuttle was introduced last year as a way to improve safety, navigation and connectivity during the city-wide festival between the hours of 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. As a result, Cranbrook RCMP submitted this report citing a drop of over one-third in calls for service.

Sam Steele Society’s Maureen Frank says the importance of this service cannot be overlooked.

“This is a very important service that contributes to the general safety of the whole community, not just the riders,” she said.

A total of 341 riders availed themselves to the service last year, catching rides from bar to bar instead of risking everything for themselves and those around them by driving and possibly being caught in RCMP road checks, such as the one pictured above.

Anyone interested in helping finance this year’s shuttle service can contact the Sam Steele Society office at 250-426-4161.
