Spring break is coming; are you ready?

Spring break for the kids is coming up, do you have a plan?

If not, I have some suggestions for you to keep the kids busy and engaged. Depending on our weather you may be able to break out the bikes or take the sleds out for a slide.

Free or cheap

1. Idlewild Park (pictured above), Elizabeth Lake, Rotary Trail, NorthStar Rails-to-Trails, Cranbrook Community Forest. Take a walk somewhere – can you find signs of spring?

2. Sledding – weather and snow permitting – Idlewild and St Mary’s School.

3. Outdoor skating – again weather and ice permitting – Baker Park or Pop Price (are pretty much done for the year) but check with City of Cranbrook Leisure Services for indoor skating times.

4. South Star Area – cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

5. Cranbrook Public Library

a. They have Preschool and Toddler Storytime

b. Special events planned for the entire Spring Break. Check out their Facebook page or call 250-426-4063

c. While you are there pick up some spring themed books

6. Wiggle, Giggle and Grow – Wednesday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 23 – 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for ages infant to six at Cranbrook Family Connections (next to Core Fitness) check out the CAPC Facebook Page

7. Tumble Time – Thursday, March 17, and Thursday, March 24 – 9:30-11 a.m. for ages infant to six at St Mary’s School. Check out the CAPC Facebook Page

8. Fort Steele – check out the animals. Are the lambs out yet? – by donation 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.

9. Drive out to the Kootenay Fish Hatchery

10. Check out a new playground – Rotary Park (downtown) McKinnon Park, Pop Price Park, Idlewild playground.

11. Check out Pinterest and grab some crafting supplies from Crafty Creations at the Child Care Resource and Referral office (250) 426-5677 (across from Safeway) or the dollar store.

13. Build a fort in the living room and watch a movie

14. Bake some cookies – again a great resource is Pinterest or just Google it.

1. City of Cranbrook

a. Spring Break Swimming Lessons: Check out the Leisure Services Guide on the City of Cranbrook website, or call 250-489-0220

b. City of Cranbrook Spring Break camps – Ages 5-12, the city is running a camp for each week of spring break. Check out Leisure Services Guide or call 250-489-0220

2. Fort Steele Heritage Town

a. Ages 5-12, Fort Steele is running a camp for each week of spring break. Check out their website or call 250-417-6000

b. Fort Steel Easter Sunday Celebrations – Easter Egg hunts, cookie decorations etc. $6/per person. Members and kids under two are free.

3. Spirit Rock Climbing Centre, Kimberley– Are running a number of different programs during spring break, please check out their website www.spiritrockclimbing.com and look under Kids programs.

karclimber4. Key City Gymnastics – spring break camps and programs. Call them at 250-426-2090 or check out their website.

5. Kimberley Alpine Resort – Down Hill Skiing, Lessons, half and full day skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing.

6. Fairmont Hot Springs/Radium Hot Springs – Go and have a soak in the hot springs.

7. Toy Lending Library – Located at the Child Card Resource & Referral Office (CCRR) Memberships are $35 per year and start April 1.
