Summer Sounds returning July 17
The free live music concert series called ‘Summer Sounds’ will return to Cranbrook’s Rotary Park stage on Saturday July 17, at 6 p.m.
The Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society (FPPAS) organizers and volunteers have pulled together an incredible line up of performers and a communicable disease prevention plan that will require the cooperation of everyone attending.
“It took extra buckets of optimism and patience to wait for the provincial order to be announced on June 30. We were prepared for the worst, but hopeful that public health restrictions would be lowered enough to get our talented artists back on the stage again,” shared Maureen Frank, member of the FPPAS Board of Directors.
Everyone is welcome to come to these outdoor, family friendly events, but please consider leaving your pets at home
Craft beer by Fisher Peak Brewing Company and food will be available to quench your cravings. Attendees should bring their own chairs or blankets and be respectful of one another’s space and comfort level as we return to social environments on the winning side of the pandemic.
Do a personal health check before you attend. Please stay home if you have been around someone who has recently tested positive for any communicable disease, or if you have a fever, headache, or have cold or flu-like symptoms.
People who have not been vaccinated for COVID-19 or have not received their second shot are encouraged to wear a mask or to stay home to protect themselves and others. Free masks, hand sanitizer, and information on where to obtain a COVID-19 vaccination in Cranbrook will be available at the FPPAS information booth at Rotary Park.
Summer Sounds features two acts each Saturday until August 28.
Opening the first show will be The Confluentials, a multi-instrumental duo comprised of Christina Blaskovich and Barry Coulter (pictured above). The well-known locals perform a modern take on English folk rock, Celtic traditional and Americana, with vocal harmonies.
At 7:30 p.m. Baker Street Blues, known as the “rockin’ blues dance band,” will take over the stage until the show ends around 9:30.
Their professional, and highly entertaining shows deliver “Blues that grabs hold of you….and doesn’t let go!”
After performing in various successful bands for over 30 years, Stelio Calagias (lead singer, guitar, harmonica) and his brother-in-law Phil Wilson-Birks (bass guitar) fulfilled their life-long dream by creating this four-piece electric blues band that has gone on to achieve outstanding success with over 180 shows in just four years.
Baker Street Blues is rated number one on the ReverbNation charts locally and regionally, and eighth nationally. The group is rounded out with Ryan Telegdy (lead guitar), and Patrick Alexandre (drums) and are currently working on their second album.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up.
The public is reminded of the City of Cranbrook Clean Air bylaw No. 3940 which prohibits the smoking of tobacco or cannabis products in outdoor public spaces such as Rotary Park.
