Summer Story Walks coming to downtown Cranbrook

Downtown Cranbrook invites you, and the young children in your life, on a story walk!

With the help of a map, walk between several storefront windows, and read a story a couple of pages at a time.

There will be a total of three story walks this summer, one in June, July and August.

The story walks will always start at the Cranbrook Public Library, where you will receive your map. You can participate in each month’s story walk at any time throughout the month — just check the library’s hours to make sure it is open when you want to get started.

Enter to win a prize: Each page of the story walk has an ‘alphabet letter’ attached to it. Write down the letters or take pictures of them with your phone. At the end of the walk, unscramble the letters. If you think you have figured out the words, you can go back to the library at the end of your walk and enter the draw for a chance to win a prize.

There will be a variety of prizes from local businesses/organizations. The draws will happen in the first week of July, August and September.

The first story will be “Sheep Take a Hike” and the two words to unscramble are related to hiking in our area.

The Cranbrook story walk was inspired by a similar story walk in Salmon Arm – thanks to Rita from Child Care Resource and Referral for sharing this idea. Thanks to all the participating businesses/organizations, and to those who donated prizes. Thanks to the Cranbrook Public Library for taking on a lead role in this activity and to Niki with the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) for putting it all together.

Thanks to all of you for participating!

If you have any questions, call or text Niki at: 250-421-8096 or find CAPC Cranbrook on Facebook.
