Team effort quickly finds missing woman

On Friday, April 17, at just before noon, Cranbrook Search and Rescue (SAR) was tasked by the RCMP to assist with a search for a missing female after she failed to return from a drive. Cranbrook RCMP, Police Dog Service and Search and Rescue (SAR) teams from the area were utilized.

Cranbrook SAR was assisted by Kimberley SAR and Cranbrook Air SAR. After only a short period of time the SAR aircraft located the female and her truck. Teams proceeded to her location by truck, snowmobile, and helicopter.

The helicopter was able to land and make contact with the subject and fly her out. She was very tired from digging her truck out of the soft snow but in good health.

“She was well prepared with food, water, shovel, axe, and other equipment. She also did the right thing by letting someone know where she was going prior to leaving, which helped in the quickly locating her. The team were able to free her truck from the snow and get it home for her,” Cranbrook SAR reported on Facebook this morning (April 18).

Cranbrook SAR had 12 members active on the search, it said, adding, social distancing procedures were followed by members. Limiting members per vehicle, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment was available and utilized where applicable.
