What is the future of sport in Cranbrook?

Cranbrook Tourism invites public participation

Do you have an interest in seeing more sporting events hosted in Cranbrook in the future?

There are numerous benefits to hosting these events including the economic spinoff of new dollars in the local economy, the potential for improved facilities and reduced taxpayer burden to also enjoy those facilities. Additionally, these events can be important to the visitor economy as they can become recurring and are also very resilient during periods of economic downturn.

Part of the mandate of Cranbrook Tourism is to market and promote Cranbrook and region… for sport travel…growing the visitor economy (increasing visitor spending, employment and tax revenue) contributing to improved quality of life for residents. To do that, we need your help.

Sport tourism is the fastest-growing segment of the tourism industry in Canada and represents $6.8 billion in annual spending in Canada annually across the more than 200,000 sport events that take place each year. From inter-community to national and international events, sport tourism can help communities to ā€œget in the gameā€ and positively impact their communities from developing or attracting sport events and hosting them.

Cranbrook Tourism has identified the development of greater sport tourism events as a significant opportunity for the community and is in the process of making an entry into this competitive market segment. To ensure that weĀ  best identify and set the future direction for sport tourism, we will be hosting an information session on sport tourism in January.

Cranbrook Tourism invites those with an interest in the future of sportĀ in Cranbrook to attend a session that will help to inform the future direction. The session will take place at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort at 209 Van Horne St S, Cranbrook onĀ Tuesday, January 21Ā from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

We ask you toĀ RSVPĀ by sending your name, organization you represent and email address to:Ā [email protected]

The session, which will be facilitated by a representative from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance who are currently conducting an assessment of the current state of readiness for Cranbrook and sport tourism.
