What’s up in the Cranbrook Arts Gallery
January 2019 at Cranbrook Arts on Baker Street has started off with a beautiful exhibit of paintings by Jeanie Miller.
Jeanie has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. It seems she has always had the need or desire to put pencil, pen, pastel, crayon, charcoal or paint to some surface.
She has worked in several mediums, and loves them all, but is now focusing on her newfound love, OILS. Oils have allowed her to widen her knowledge and skills, and she has found a renewed excitement for her desire to express herself through painting. She is still doing watercolours, her first love.
She says that she has no formal schooling in the arts, but has been extremely fortunate to have found many talented established artists who have been willing to share their knowledge, talent and passion for painting and drawing.
In 2008 she joined the “We Paint” group in Kimberley, at which point she was only painting at workshops. She now paints regularly and feels that with the support of her artist group, she has grown as an artist. Still taking classes and workshops that excite her, she continues to learn about her process of creating, and who she is as an artist.
“My hope is that I have captured the play of Light and Shadow in my paintings and that the viewer is in some way moved by what they see,” she said.
Jeanie’s open house and reception is January 19, from 2-4 p.m. at the Gallery on Baker Street (1013 Baker). Come and meet the artist, see her work and have a cup of coffee.

We are setting up more workshops of course. Tony Austin’s Sumi-E (Japanese Ink Painting) workshop, originally planned for January is being moved to early March. Giovanna Paz’s jewelry making workshops are continuing in February. Giovanna’s earrings and bracelets were very popular Christmas gifts this year!
