Summer in the East Kootenay

The alleged Rockies. Smoke completely obscures the mountains usually towering above Highway 93 near Fort Steele. Carrie Schafer/e-KNOW

Summer 2017 was a real son of a bastage.

That’s all there is to say about that.

Still, I’d rather live in a smoky East Kootenay with the threat of wildfire ever present, as we experienced this past summer, than anywhere else.

Images gathered this summer include the following locales/subjects: A poor job at the solar eclipse; plants, birds, bats, rodents, smoky skies, red suns; Brisco area; Cranbrook and area; Canal Flats; Columbia River Wetlands; Spillimacheen area; Kimberley and area, including Cominco Garden and Marysville Falls; Elkford; Fernie and area; St. Mary Lake; Fort Steele Heritage Town; and Radium Hot Springs.
