The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is holding volunteer training sessions on Sunday, August 19 at the Manual Training Centre (Cranbrook Library 1212-2nd Street North) at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Those interested will learn the basic skills needed to assist at an Emergency Social Services Reception Centre, and about current volunteer opportunities available to support wildfire evacuees.

“We’re very grateful to have had such an outpour of support from the community over the last few days,” said RDEK Central Sub-region Emergency Social Services Director Melody Munro. “We are still actively seeking volunteers, and this training opportunity helps prepare people for this important role.”

Each session lasts approximately two hours and refreshments are provided.
