Five fires listed as out of control in region
BC Wildfire Service is this morning reporting a new wildfire in the Findley Creek drainage, on the edge of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy.
Believed to be caused by lighting, the fire discovered July 3 is estimated at 40 hectares. It is about 34 km southwest of Canal Flats.
Sticking with the Columbia Valley, there is another new small fire just west of the Westside Road, about two km from Highway 93/95. Believed to be lightning caused, the fire is .01 ha.
There is another new fire east of Fairmont Hot Springs, on the east side of Fairmont Mountain. Lightning caused, the fire is about .01 ha.
Five fires are now considered out of control in the East Kootenay.
The Moyie River/Lumberton fire is out of control at 19 hectares. Discovered July 2, the fire is about 26 km southwest of Cranbrook.
The lightning caused Dry Creek north fire, now at five ha, is also listed as out of control. The fire is located on the east side of the Fairmont Range southeast of Fairmont Hot Springs. Believed lightning caused, the .01 ha fire is roughly seven km from Fairmont.
The Bear Creek fire, on the west side of Kootenay River, west of Windermere, is also out of control at 1.2 ha. The lightning caused fire was discovered July 2.
The lightning caused Moberley Creek fire, discovered July 2, is out of control at 1.38 ha. It is about 11 km north of Golden.
The Carrol Creek fire, just west of Kinbasket Lake, is out of control at 15 ha.
The Bootleg fire west of Kimberley is under control at .36 ha.
