Fort Steele shutting down for the rest of March

Given the developing news and COVID-19 pandemic situation unfolding around the globe, Fort Steele Heritage Town this morning (March 13) announced it is closing the site to visitors for the remainder of the month.

“With the chances of travellers coming in contact with our staff, we are eliminating the chance of our staff getting sick while on site,” Fort Steele stated on Facebook.

“Our staff will continue to be busy getting our site ready for the summer. We are taking all necessary safety precautions and ensuring above average cleaning protocol across our departments. All of our staff are expected to stay home if they feel unwell, the staff are working in isolation to keep distance from other people.”

The bakery is still providing wholesale customers their products with provided safety measures for contact.

“With Easter fast approaching, and the restriction on large groups, we will be monitoring the situation closely and will decide in a few week’s time if the event must be cancelled, or not.

Fort Steele urges visitors to “stay tuned” for updated information as the month progresses.

Fort Steele is one of the major tourism draws in the East Kootenay.
