Gay returned as RDEK board chair

Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area C Director Rob Gay (returned to office via acclamation) was re-elected regional board chair this morning.

Nominated by Electoral Area G Director Gerry Wilkie, Gay was returned to the chair position unopposed. This is the eighth straight year as chair for the fifth-term director. Chairs and vice-chairs are elected during the November meeting every year.

The regional board also elected a new vice-chair today, with Village of Radium Hot Springs Mayor Clara Reinhardt being nominated by Electoral Area E Director Jane Walter. She was also unopposed.

“I am excited for the year ahead,” said Gay. “We have a number of new directors joining us around the board table and an ambitious work plan. I am grateful for the ongoing support of my fellow Directors and look forward to working closely with them and the RDEK staff to continue to move our region forward.”

Also acclaimed as Radium’s Mayor, Reinhardt said, “I thank my fellow directors for their confidence in me and look forward to serving in this new capacity.”
