“We lived while others didn’t”
Dan Savage was among the 22,000 concertgoers who came under murderous fire Oct. 1 in Las Vegas.
Dan, son of Cranbrook resident David Savage, was at the country music festival near the Mandalay Hotel, to the left of the stage, when the slow and horrifying realization that someone was firing a gun into the crowd hit.
From that point on he leads his girlfriend and two other friends to safety in a harrowing, chaotic escape. A short time later he wrote out his thoughts on his blog, noting at the start, “we were fish in a barrel.”
Dan notes in his conclusion: “Each of our friends experienced different situations and survived by doing different things. There really wasn’t any rhyme or reason we’re alive when being shot at like that. We zigged, others zagged. We lived while others didn’t. It’s going to take a long time to come to grips with what happened. In the meantime, we’re back home now. I love you all.”
He titled his account ‘Our experience at Route 91.’
Dan’s father David shared his post with e-KNOW.
“I am horrified, proud and angry all at once. America, your Second Amendment was not meant to militarize your nation and murder 33,000 people every year,” he stated.
