Mainroad forecasting varying snowfall levels for Purcells

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd.’s meteorological service is predicting a weather system will move into the region for tonight into Wednesday evening before tapering around dawn on Thursday.

Light to moderate snow showers are expected for the Panorama Mountain Resort area with accumulations of 15-30cm possible.

Elsewhere, light snow showers will develop for the overnight hours into Tuesday morning before temperatures rise above freezing for Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday afternoon.

Possible snow accumulations of two to five cm from Moyie north to Canal Flats, three to seven cm for Kimberley and Irishman-Yahk south to the border by Tuesday afternoon.

Most areas below 1,000m will change to rain or rain/snow showers from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday afternoon.

Mainroad will be applying anti-icing chemicals and performing snow removal operations where necessary, which will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard.

Motorists should expect unsettled weather, drive to the prevailing conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather.
