Mainroad gives heads up on incoming snow
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting’s meteorological service is predicting a weather system will move in tonight with scattered snow showers into late Thursday morning and lingering through the night.
Current indications show a 40% chance of area wide snow from two to nine cm possible and heaviest across the northern areas by tomorrow evening. Light snow showers linger into Friday. Wind will gust from the south of 20 km/h to 40 overnight. Lows of – 4, wind chill near – 9, and near – 12 in the Elk Valley.
Mainroad will be applying anti-icing chemicals and performing snow removal operations where necessary that will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard.
Environment Canada has also issued a snowfall warning in effect for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.
Motorists should expect unsettled weather, drive to the prevailing conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather.
An approaching frontal system will move inland tonight and across the B.C. interior on Thursday.
