Mainroad provides mowing operations update

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. has provided an update on mowing operations in the East Kootenay service area.

“We thank the public for the recent candid feedback concerning mowing operations. Due to rising temperatures and provincial fire hazards in the community of Grasmere and surrounding area, mowing operations were scheduled later in the year, after the fire hazard subsided. However, hand-cutting vegetation at intersections and around signage has been ongoing with regular patrols throughout the service area,” Mainroad outlined in a July 30 media release.

Following consultation with the public and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and with a safe work plan in place for crews, Mainroad has mobilized extra equipment to address the safety hazards caused by the tall foliage ~ this work is underway today and tomorrow.

“To complete this work sooner, we have added a new high capacity water truck to control the fire hazard,” Mainroad said.

“After the BC Day long weekend, with road and weather conditions permitting, we will safely resume mowing operations throughout the East Kootenay service area.”

To report sight line concerns or report feedback, please call Mainroad’s 24-hour public information hotline, 1-800-665-4929 – be sure to leave your phone number for a call back. As always, feedback is logged and passed onto crews in the area.
