MLA Shypitka says BC Liberals need to change name
Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka believes it is time the BC Liberal Party changed its name to better reflect British Columbia and avoid association with the federal Liberal Party of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“The name ‘BC Liberal’ is confusing to many,” Shypitka said August 29, on the fifth anniversary of when he announced he would run as a candidate for the BC Liberals.
“The BC Liberals are a stand-alone centre/right coalition exclusive only to British Columbia. We have no affiliation or association with any federal political party.
“I chose the BC Liberals because of this wide tent of ideas. Collaboration within the party allows us to create well rounded ideas that are best for British Columbians.
“That said, I believe we need to change the party’s name as it confuses too many,” he stated.
“I am so proud to be the provincial representative and I will assure you that I will always have the best interests of the residents in Kootenay East as my primary focus.”
