New fire near Ta Ta Creek and Doctor Creek is out of control

BC Wildfire Service this afternoon (August 19) reports a new wildfire off Miller Road, about 4.5 km south of Ta Ta Creek, on the east side of Highway 95A.

The .30-hectare fire, believed to be person-caused, is about five km west of the Kootenay River fire just south of Wasa. The Regional District of East Kootenay this morning reported on social media this fire is now classified as “being held.” It is noted as being 4.98 ha in size.

The biggest fire in the East Kootenay is the currently-out-of-control Doctor Creek drainage wildfire, estimated at 250 ha. The fire is located about 25 km southwest of Canal Flats.

BC Wildfire Service reports three more under control fires on its website, including the four ha Stirton Road fire near Marysville, a .01 ha fire at Koocanusa Village on the west side of Lake Koocanusa and another .01 ha fire off Farstad Way at Skookumchuck.
