New fire sparks overnight

The BC Wildfire Service reports another new, small wildfire sparked overnight in the Kootenay River Valley, about 16 km due east of Windermere.

A .01-hectare fire is reported adjacent to the Settlers-Kootenay Forest Service Road. The suspected cause is unknown at this time.

Two other fires in the East Kootenay remain on the books, including the fire south of Whitetail Lake, now listed as under control at about .30-ha in size.

The fire reported July 29 near Wickman Creek, southeast of Cranbrook and about 17 km west of Newgate, is also listed as under control at about .04 ha.
