New fires reported near Kimberley and Cranbrook

The BC Wildfire Service is this morning (August 3) reporting two new lightning-caused wildfires overnight.

There is a new fire being reported in the Mark Creek area, about 6.5 km west of Kimberley. The fire is approximately half a hectare in size.

There is also fire is located roughly three km southeast of the City of Cranbrook’s Phillips Reservoir, east of Gold Creek Road. That fire is about .04 ha in scale.

BC Wildfire Service is still reporting the Wickman Creek fire, discovered July 29, southeast of Cranbrook, as being under control at .04 ha in size.

There are only three fires being reported in the East Kootenay, with 43 currently burning in the province. Twenty-eight new fires have been reported in the past two days.
