The Cranbrook and District Community Foundation has announced its new name, Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies, along with a new logo.

According to Dave Struthers, Board President of the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies, “We are very pleased to let the community know that our organization has recently completed one of our key strategic priorities: to update our name, logo, and overall branding.”

Struthers added, “Our new name puts our identity as a Community Foundation front and centre. It clearly conveys our service area, which includes not only Cranbrook and area but also the Elk Valley. We deeply value our Community Funds in Fernie and Sparwood as well as our endowment fund holders in the Elk Valley, and it is very important to us to convey this through our new name and logo.”

The bright and welcoming colours in the new logo are based on the colours from the Community Foundations of Canada. As one of almost 200 Community Foundations across Canada, and as a member of the Community Foundations of Canada, this is an important connection for the Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies.

The mountain and river in the new logo clearly ground the Community Foundation in our local geography, which is a key part of our communities. The sun symbolizes the positive energy that the Community Foundation strives to bring to our communities, supporting projects and programs that enhance the lives of local residents.

“We would like to thank Chris Botterill and everyone at Genex (Marketing) for their expert support through this process, including Kyla Cornish’s work on our Facebook page,” said Lynnette Wray, Community Foundation Executive Director. “We would also like to thank RM Office Solutions and Sidekick Stickers for helping us share our new name and logo with the community.”

The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies continues to do the same good work of seeking and gratefully accepting donations of money, which are then permanently invested. These permanently invested funds earn interest, every year, forever. A portion of the interest is granted to local projects and programs, to make our communities even better places to live, work, and play

The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies was established in 2003 and is a federally incorporated not-for-profit and a CRA-registered charity. It is governed by a 13-member, volunteer Board of Directors and employs one full-time staff person. The Community Foundation holds over $2 million in permanently invested funds, which provide grants to community projects and programs, every year, forever. Since its first community grants in 2004, the Community Foundation has shared almost $500,000 with local projects and programs in our communities.
