PGA of BC raises over $233k for ALSBC

In the 20th edition of the program, the Professional Golfers’ Association of British Columbia (PGA of BC) and the ALS Society of BC celebrated the milestone with another successful PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS.

At the PGA of BC Awards Celebration held at the Langley Events Centre on October 28, the society’s Vice President Julie MacCarthy recognized the efforts of dozens of contributors, who helped raise awareness and vital funds that benefit the society’s patient services programs, helping to reduce financial burdens through the purchase equipment, provide psychological support, and transportation to medical appointments.

Since 2006, the Golfathon for ALS has united golf professionals and enthusiasts across British Columbia to raise awareness and critical funds for individuals affected by ALS in BC and the Yukon. Over 120 participants took part in the 2025 campaign, spread out at 32 facilities in a number of different communities throughout the province.

In this year’s campaign, a total of 10,899 holes were played, over approximately 1,700 hours committed on the golf course by participants. Several facilities played for over 17 continuous hours, while the team at Copper Point Golf Club jointly played the most holes at 885 between four golf professionals.

Dale Schienbein and his team at Seymour Golf & Country Club raised $70,148, the most from any one facility.

But most importantly, the 20th annual campaign has contributed $233,925 for ALS BC to date, bringing the total amount raised to over $3.25 million since its inception.

“We are incredibly grateful for what golf professionals continue to do for the ALS Society of BC. Some take part in the Golfathon as they have been personally affected by ALS, while others do it for their kind nature and to give back to their communities. That’s what makes golf professionals such incredible people. They care and they truly are heroes” said Donald Miyazaki, Executive Director for the ALS Society of BC.

The Golfathon for ALS has become a cornerstone event, with golfers playing from sunrise to sunset, lending their muscles to support those who have lost theirs to ALS.

“Together with the support of Pacific Blue Cross, the funds raised through the Golfathon go towards services that directly benefit patients, caregivers, and families who have been affected by ALS,” added Miyazaki. “With millions of dollars raised spanning almost two decades, participants and their donors have made a positive impact on the quality of life of literally, thousands of families”.

“On behalf of the PGA of BC, its members, and its sponsors, I would like to again thank everyone involved for their continued dedication to the Golfathon for ALS,” said Mark Strong, Executive Director for the PGA of BC. “Now having 20 years of this initiative in the books, we can again celebrate another great contribution to the ALS Society of BC and its patient services, and look forward to another successful fundraising next year in 2026.”
