Premier’s inaction puts cruise ship industry at risk: Clovechok
BC Liberal MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke Doug Clovechok May 31 said in an address to the Legislature that despite Premier John Horgan’s comments that the likelihood was slim, a U.S. bill allowing Alaska-bound cruise ships to bypass our province has indeed been signed into law.
The cruise ship industry in British Columbia employed 20,000 people before the pandemic, and large ship docking in Vancouver generates close to $3 billion in economic activity. This industry is a key driver of economic activity within the tourism sector in B.C.
Clovechok says if the U.S. bill does not turn out to be temporary and remains in effect after the borders reopen, the fallout for B.C.’s tourism industry and economy would be devastating.
