Public comment period opens for funding applications
A new online comment form has been set up to provide residents within the region to share their thoughts on the projects being considered for funding through the 2020/2021 Columbia Basin Trust Community Initiatives and Affected Areas Programs.
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) administers the programs on behalf of Columbia Basin Trust and RDEK Corporate Officer Shannon Moskal says public input is an important part of the review process.
“While we have 14 review committees that review the applications and make recommendations on which projects should receive funding, this program is aimed at supporting projects that have direct benefit in communities. Having the community’s input is an important way for us to gain a greater understanding about these impacts,” said RDEK Moskal.
As all public meetings have been cancelled, the RDEK has set up a project page at engage.rdek.bc.ca/cbt with a summary of the proposals by area and a comment form. Comments are being accepted until noon on April 8. Those without access to computers can contact the RDEK office to request a list of proposals and get information on how they can provide feedback.
Once the public comment period has closed, the RDEK will compile the comments received and share them with the review committees and municipalities and Electoral Area Directors. Funding recommendations are expected to be provided to the RDEK Board in May.
