Skookumchuck Pulp Inc. reports it will be performing necessary maintenance on its NCG Incinerator between Dec. 2 and 8, which may result in odorous gases being vented.

Under normal operation conditions, these gases are collected and then incinerated in the NCG Incinerator, the company says, noting the maintenance is necessary to prevent further and more lengthy disruption in the near future.

The Ministry of Environment is aware of the repairs and the company will continue to communicate with the provincial government under the incinerator is back to normal operation, Skookumchuck said in a public notification released this evening (Dec. 2).

“The mill will be monitoring ambient air quality during this venting period and has procedures in place to minimalize and react to continuous air quality measurements taken at the mill’s Farstad Way ambient monitoring station.”

The company apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, stated Brandy Craig, Skookumchuck Environmental Supervisor Brandy Craig.
