Regional board supports Windsor Hotel patio application

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors March 8 unanimously agreed to support a liquor licencing application by Friends of Fort Steele Society / Fort Steele Heritage Town to add a patio to the Windsor Hotel.

A regional staff report notes: “OCP policies support development that provides additional local services while preserving the historical significance of the area. No negative impacts are anticipated from the proposal.”

The application is for a Liquor Primary Structural Change to add a 95 m2 patio to the historic bar located in the Windsor Hotel in Fort Steele Heritage Town. The proposed occupant load for the patio is 64 patrons. The hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily and the approved occupant load for the bar currently is 12 patrons.

The staff report also pointed out that Notices of Intent were mailed to property owners within 700 metres of the subject properties on January 28 and two letters were returned as undeliverable with no responses received.

The Electoral Area C Advisory Planning Committee also supports application.
