Regional wildfires under control and being held
Thanks to cooler weather, some precipitation and prompt responses from BC Wildfire Service crews, the wildfire situation in the East Kootenay is, for today, under control and being held.
The only new wildfire being reported by BC Wildfire Service today (July 9) is the .6 hectare fire between the CP Rail tracks and Highway 3, near the Caithness Mobile Home Park.
The person-caused fire was heavily attacked after forcing a brief Regional District of East Kootenay evacuation order for the mobile home park.
The lightning caused fire discovered July 7 north of the Teepee Creek Forest Service Road and about 15 km south of Wardner is under control at .01 ha.
The Moyie River/Lumberton fire, southwest of Cranbrook, is still under control at 29 ha. The fire was discovered July 2.
The Granite Creek wildfire in the Findlay Creek drainage, located on the edge of the eastern edge of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, is now being held at 26 ha. It is about 34 km southwest of Canal Flats.
The lightning caused Dry Creek North fire, at five ha, remains under control. The fire is located on the east side of the Fairmont Range southeast of Fairmont Hot Springs.
The Bear Creek fire, on the west side of Kootenay River, west of Windermere, is still being held at 1.5 ha. The lightning caused fire was discovered July 2.
Two new fires reported by BC Wildfire yesterday are no longer appearing on the BC Wildfire Dashboard.
One was reported 2.4 km from Skookumchuck in the Lussier River drainage. And the other .01 fire with an unknown cause was reported near Findlay Creek, about 1.3 km from its confluence with the Kootenay River.
The Carrol Creek fire, just west of Kinbasket Lake and about 30 km northwest of Donald, remains out of control at 98 ha.
