SD5 Board Notes

The following is a summary of board motions carried during the February 13 School District No. 5 (SD5) school board of trustees’ meeting held in Cranbrook.

Motions Carried

Advocacy/Education

That the board approves the field trip for Jaffrey Elementary Junior Secondary School (JEJSS) to China in April 2018. A presentation will be given at a future Advocacy/Education Committee meeting.

Finance Operations

That the board researches those responsibilities for the upkeep and ownership of the four km Dawson’s Path along the Jaffray-Baynes Lake Road.

That the Board approves the district submitting an application to the City of Cranbrook for approval to install crosswalk flashing lights at Steeples Elementary School.

That the board writes a letter to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Regional District of East Kootenay requesting a crosswalk on Highway 3 by Tie Lake Road. 

That the board writes a letter to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the regional district requesting three sets of flashing lights; two coming off Highway 3 onto Jaffray Baynes-Lake Road and the Jaffray Village Loop Road, and the third either side of the railway track to bring awareness to drivers of the Jaffray School following the completion of the Steeples crosswalk flashing lights.

General

Read a third and final time the 2017/18 Amended Annual Budget on February 13 in the amount of $71,891,932.

To amend the school calendars for 2017/18 and 2018/19 to accommodate the addition of a non-instructional day to the 2018/19 and the change of date to Family Day.

That the board writes a response to the January 30, 2018 letter received by Minister Fleming with regard to IDES in Fernie.
