SD5 Board Notes

The following are summaries of board motions carried during the March 12 and April 9 School District No. 5 (SD5) board meetings held in Cranbrook.

Motions Carried

Advocacy

That the board approves BAA Courses Leadership 10, 11 and 12, Outdoor Leadership 10, Psychology 11 and 12, Tutoring 11 and 12 and Yearbook 10,11 and 12.

That the board approves the 2020/2021 calendar be sent out for community consultation.

Policy

That the board of Education approves Revised 3.40 Learning Resources.

That the board of Education approves Revised Policy 3.3 Medical Alert.

That the board of Education approves Revised Policy 3.4 Administration of Prescription Medication.

That the board of Education approves Revised Policy 7.1 Acceptable Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Technology Services.

Finance/Operations/Personnel

That the board authorizes the Secretary Treasurer to write a letter to the Ministry of Transportation of Infrastructure requesting that the 70 km/h speed limit on Highway 3 East of Jaffray continue for an additional 2.5 kms and increase to 100 km/h after the Sand Creek Bridge.

That the board writes a letter of support to the Ministry of Education asking the ministry to amend the Area Standards to include a space at Mount Baker Secondary School designated for an Aboriginal meeting place. The letter will include past letters of correspondence.

That the board refers both letters from Robin Roszell, PAC Chair, regarding the custodial time and busing concerns at Frank J. Mitchell Elementary School to the Secretary Treasurer to investigate.

General

That the board sends a letter to Darcy Verbeurgt recognizing his involvement and support of the Science Fair over the years.

That the board approves obtaining quotes from two consulting firms to put together a Project Definition Report (PDR) for the Isabella Dicken Elementary School Capital Project to explore the scope and budget of the project as soon as possible.

That the board accepts the 2019/20 Capital Minor and Major projects approved by the Ministry of Education.

That the board gives final approval for the Mount Baker Secondary School Field Trip to Japan in March 2019.

That the board gives final approval for the Jaffray School Field Trip to Spain/Morocco April 19.
