Environment Canada early this morning issued a Smoky Skies Bulletin in effect for most of the East Kootenay, excluding the northern section of the Columbia Valley.

“Many regions in the B.C. Interior are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke. Smoke has returned to parts of the Kootenays and Boundary from local fires as well as those burning south of the U.S./Canada border,” Environment Canada stated.

“Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

“If you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure. Wildfire smoke is a constantly changing mixture of particles and gasses which includes many chemicals that can harm your health.”
