South Country firefighters Boot Drive returns

If you find yourself in the Kikomun/Koocanusa area this weekend, make sure to bring a little extra cash as the South Country Firefighters kick off their annual Boot Drive.

“This is always a great day for our team,” said Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire Chief Dave Boreen. “It is amazing to see how the community and visitors support this cause each year.”

Starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, the South Country Fire Departments will be accepting donations for their annual Boot Drive to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Members of the fire departments will be stationed at the Four Corners intersection (Jaffray/Baynes Lake Road and Kikomun Road – pictured above) near Kikomun Creek Provincial Park with boots in hand.

Since 2004, the South Country Fire Departments have raised more than $50,000 to help fund Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s valuable services and research.

“We are so grateful for everyone’s ongoing support and look forward to another successful event on Saturday,” added Boreen.
