Three new wildfires reported in the East Kootenay

BC Wildfire Service today (July 10) reports a new lightning-caused wildfire near the top of Gold Mountain, about 40 km southeast of Cranbrook. The fire is an estimated one hectare in size.

A new fire is reported in Copper Creek, between Highway 93/95 and the Kootenay River, about 12 km south of Canal Flats. The fire with an unknown cause is estimated at .2 ha.

There is another new fire, discovered July 8, that is considered out of control at .05 ha on Bill Nye Mountain, about eight km southeast of Wasa. The suspected cause of the fire is lighting.

Meanwhile, all other fires in the region, as reported yesterday, remain under control or are being held.
