Torch lit for 55+ BC Games

The Kimberley/Cranbrook 2018 55+ BC Games’ host society held a public torch lighting on Sunday, June 17 at Balement Park.

Drumming, a welcome to Ktunaxa Traditional Territory by elder Dorothy Alpine, and speeches by City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick, City of Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt, Cindy Simpson, president of the BC Seniors Games Society (pictured right) and 55+ BC Games Host Society co-presidents Jaret Thompson and Sandy Zeznik preceded the arrival of the torch, carried in by Cranbrook Winter Olympian India Sherret.

The Kimberley/Cranbrook 2018 55+ BC Games will take place Sept. 11-15, with sports being held in venues throughout Cranbrook and Kimberley.

Over 2,800 participants are expected to compete in 23 sports.
