Two dangerous drivers removed from the road
In the last few days two impaired drivers were removed from the road. Both created a significant risk to themselves and others in Kimberley, including one driver who believed he was in Invermere.
In the first instance on Sept. 7, RCMP received a report of a driver passed out near the police station in Kimberley. When officers attended they found the vehicle running, the signal light on and the driver passed out in the driverās seat.
While attempting to rouse him they noted strong signs of alcohol consumption. When they asked for his driverās license he produced a completely different card. When asked where he was going, he said āInvermere.ā When asked where he lived in replied, āInvermere, just a few blocks away.ā
āHe had no idea he was on a residential street in Kimberley,ā reported Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander.
Two breath samples were obtained, with both producing a āFailā reading. The driver is now prohibited from driving for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for 30 days.
The second incident occurred on Sept. 10 at 3 a.m. when a driver was caught speeding on Highway 95A near Forest Crowne.
The female driver was stopped for doing 125 km/h in an 80 zone. While dealing with the driver the officer noted signs of alcohol consumption.
Two breath samples were obtained, both a āFail.ā She is now prohibited from driving for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 30 days.
In addition to the impaired driving sanctions, she received a ticket for excessive speed. Since the driver was already suspended from driving, she now has a court date in November.
āIn both cases the drivers posed significant risk to the community. The consequences of their actions could have been far worse,ā Sgt. Newel noted.
