Two new fires burning in region

BC Wildfire Service reports there are two new fires burning in the East Kootenay.

Both fires, which began August 20, are located in/near the Kootenay River Valley.

The first, an estimated .90-hectare fire near the Grasmere-Dorr Road, is believed to have been ignited by lightning.

The second fire is about .2 ha and is located near Colvalli Road, 4.5 km southwest of Jaffray. The suspected cause is unknown at this time.

These are the only wildfires burning in the region. On August 20, 2018, there were 20 wildfires burning in the region, including the Meachen Creek Complex, Lost Dog Complex and Mount Dickson wildfires that threatened the St. Mary Valley and City of Kimberley.
