Variable precipitation expected in next 48 hours

Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd.’s meteorological service is predicting variable precipitation in the region over the next 48 hours that includes rain, snow and gusty winds.

Snow showers become more widespread through tonight before tapering back to flurries into Sunday.

Panorama could see six to 12 cm; Kimberley one to three cm; and In the valleys one cm.

Forecast through Saturday evening while on Sunday, expect snow mixed with rain ending near noon then cloudy.

Mainroad will be applying anti-icing chemicals and performing snow removal operations where necessary, which will continue on all highways until the event passes and roadways are returned to the acceptable standard.

Motorists should expect unsettled weather, drive to the prevailing conditions, and prepare for delays caused by the weather.
