20 Year Service Award highlights Fire Department Banquet

Long-standing service awards, promotions and certificate presentations were all part of the recent celebrations at the Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Service (EVSCFS) annual appreciation banquet.

“The appreciation evening is always a special night for us as we acknowledge and thank all of our firefighters who give such outstanding service to our rural communities and recognize those members who have reached service milestones,” said EVSCFS Fire Chief Dave Boreen.

Members were recognized for five and 10 years of service with the Jaffray and Baynes Lake Departments, and a number of training certificates were handed out to members who completed training in emergency scene traffic control, hazardous materials awareness, wildfire-related courses, water supply operations and more.

The longest-standing member to be recognized was James Cosens who received an exemplary service medal for his 20 years of service with the Baynes Lake Fire Department. “Jim works well with all members of his team and frequently goes over and above to help members with training,” said Boreen. “Aside from the on-the-groundwork he does as a firefighter, Jim can always be counted on to participate in other functions at the department such as fundraising, work bees, and social events. We are grateful for his years of service and proud to have him as a member of our crew.”
