Another snowfall warning for the Elk Valley
Environment Canada this morning (Nov. 15) has issued another snowfall warning for the Elk Valley.
Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm is expected.
A frontal system moving through will continue to bring snow to parts of eastern British Columbia today.
Snow in the Elk Valley will become heavy at times this afternoon over southern sections.
Communities such as Fernie and Morrissey are expected to see snowfall accumulations near 15 cm before the snow tapers off this evening.
The warning only covers the Elk Valley, with other parts of the region expected to receive some flurries during the day.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting Ltd. reports motorists may notice plow units throughout the morning and into the evening proactively treating major routes with anti-icing chemicals.
“Our crews will continue applying salt and/or winter abrasive, and performing snow removal operations, where necessary,” Mainroad said in a stakeholder alert.
