Caithness Evacuation Order rescinded

Residents of the Caithness Mobile Home Park in the Galloway area are returning home this evening after being evacuated from their homes earlier today due to a wildfire.

ā€œThe evacuation order has been lifted and the fire is now classified as ā€˜Being Held,ā€™ā€ said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Information Officer Loree Duczek. ā€œWe would like to extend our thanks to the Emergency Support Services volunteers that were there for the residents.ā€

Firefighters from the RDEKā€™s Elko and Jaffray Fire Departments along with BC Wildfire Service crews responded to the 1.1-hectare wildfire at approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon. A total of 35 people checked in at the Emergency Support Services reception centre at the Elko Community Hall.

ā€œThe members of our South Country Fire Departments and the BC Wildfire Service crews, whoā€™ve responded by ground and air today, hit this fire hard and have done an extraordinary job in controlling this situation. We are so thankful for their tireless work,ā€ added Duczek.
