Elk Valley RCMP issue phone scam alert
Elk Valley RCMP reports it continues to receive numerous complaints regarding various types of phone scams targeting residences of the Elk Valley.
The fraudsters have been getting more and more sophisticated and the public must be aware to never give out your Social Insurance Number or any other personal or banking information over the phone to anyone, said A/Cpl Debra Katerenchuk.
The public is encouraged to only provide sensitive information through verified company contacts and systems.
“The safest way to provide information is in person or to someone you know who works at the business or government agency. Please do not assume the telephone number contacting you is legitimate as computer software can replicate any phone number,” Katerenchuk outlined.
“If you are not sure about the call, just hang up and alert the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by reaching them at their web site.”
