Elk Valley RCMP Report

Elk Valley RCMP responded to 196 calls for service between May 21 and June 6.
RCMP responded to the following calls: one Breach of Peace; two Breach/Bail violations; 16 lost/found properties; five Assaults; one Break and Enter of a residence; two Cause a Disturbance; eight Collisions; one Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; one Harassing Communications; five Mischief; one missing person (was in Fernie but now confirmed that she had not re-entered into Canada); one Uttering Threat; 20 Suspicious Person/vehicle/occurrences; three bike thefts; two thefts from motor vehicles; one theft under $5,000; one theft other under $5,000 and one weapon possession charge.
Five impaired drivers were stopped by the Elk Valley RCMP resulting each receiving 90-Day Driving Prohibitions plus 30-day impoundments for their vehicles.
Prohibited woman behind driver’s wheel – again
On June 6, a very astute RCMP officer patrolling on Crowsnest Highway near Morrissey Road, observed an oncoming black Infiniti G35 vehicle and readily recognized an already prohibited woman driver. The woman is currently under RCMP investigation for two other charges of driving while prohibited. She was arrested for driving while prohibited and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Next court date for her is July 25. Elk Valley RCMP continue to investigate this matter.
Sparwood Tim Hortons Camp Day Celebration
Elk Valley RCMP Cpl. Dan Hay (pictured), doing some time, at the Tim Hortons in Sparwood, during Camp Day. RCMP officers were also at the Tim Hortons in Fernie. The RCMP assisted with the fundraiser to help send kids on trips to wilderness camps.
RCMP stop party before happening
During the evening of June 6, Elk Valley RCMP officers came across a number of piled up wood pallets left near the cross-country ski club gate in Sparwood. The heap of pallets on the road looked like it was planned for a large bush party/fire. The pallets (pictured below) were removed.
A fire on the road way, especially in town, contravenes Sparwood Bylaw Section 3.1 with a fine of $100.
Reminder to Fernie and surrounding communities
Elk Valley RCMP has seen an increase in stolen bikes in our communities. RCMP would like to remind everyone to make sure that their bikes are properly locked at all times when not in use.
