Elk Valley RCMP Report

Elk Valley RCMP officers responded to 506 calls for service between December 1, 2019, and January 15, 2020.
RCMP responded to the following calls: eight Animal Calls; 11 Assaults; four Assault with a Weapon; nine Uttering Threats Against Person; six Breach of Peace; six Breach of Bail Violations; six Cause a Disturbance; 58 Collisions; five Harassing Communications; seven Fraud; four Mental Health Act; seven Mischiefs; two Missing Persons (located); 22 Suspicious Persons/vehicles/occurrences; 10 Theft Under $5,000; one Theft Over $5,000; seven Theft from Motor Vehicle under $5,000; one Theft of Auto under $5,000; one Theft of Auto Over $5,000; two Theft-Gas under $5,000; three Theft Shoplifting under $5,000; two Criminal Harassments; one Intimidation Violence/Threat; one Possession of Cocaine; five Sexual Assault; one Sexual Interference; one Aggravated Assault; two Break & Enter to Business; two Break and Enter; one Extortion; two Possession of Stolen Property; one Trespass at Night; one Weapons Possession; two Driver While Prohibited; and 73 Traffic complaints (moving and non-moving).
Eighteen impaired drivers were intercepted by the Elk Valley RCMP resulting in the following; eight-90 Day Driving Prohibitions plus 30 day vehicle impoundments; nine three-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibition; and one 24-hour Prohibition as per Section 215 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Theft of AL24 Level from Elk Valley Lodge
On December 12, 2019 around 8:55 p.m., an AL24 Level, valued around $400, was stolen from the Elk Valley Lodge in Elkford. RCMP were able to obtain video footage of a vehicle that was at the scene.

Vehicle abandoned due to poor weather stolen
On December 19, 2019, a female from Stony Plain, Alberta reported that her son was driving her 2008 Jeep Patriot from Fernie back to Stony Plain, Alberta. Due to poor weather conditions, her son was involved in a motor vehicle accident and the vehicle was left in the ditch, near Hosmer. The next day, when the son returned to retrieve the vehicle, it was gone.

Theft of fuel from mine trucks
On two separate occasions, work trucks in Sparwood were targets of fuel thefts. In late December, in the early morning hours, culprit(s) entered the yard of the Teck Coal Mountain View Office and vandalized a work vehicle by puncturing a hole in the gas tank underneath the vehicle. An estimated $140 worth of fuel was drained out.
On January 8, the same type of theft occurred in the yard of the Sparwood Communications located on Red Cedar Avenue. This time, two vehicles were vandalized by having their fuel tanks punctured and approximately $150 worth of fuel was removed.
