Damage to Elkford COVID Signs
On April 27, Elk Valley RCMP learned that in the past few weeks, there has been approximately 20 paper laminated COVID-19 signs ripped down and burned or damaged in parks, playgrounds and ball diamonds in and around Elkford.

Break and Enter into residence with family at home
On April 29, Elk Valley RCMP received a report that a home was broken into and various items were stolen, including the family vehicle. During this brazen crime, the homeowners were home.Ā The suspect(s), while backing out of the driveway, put the vehicle into the ditch and left it there.
No one was injured during the break and enter. This was an isolated incident.
Elk Valley RCMP continue to actively investigate this crime. Please keep your residential doors locked at all times.
Mischief/burglary in progress response leads to dirt bike crash
On May 2, around 1:10 a.m., Elk Valley RCMP responded to a mischief/burglary in progress and attempted to stop a dirt bike (motocross style) that had fled from the scene. The dirt bike failed to stop and subsequently crashed approximately 100 yards further on the roadway. The driver of the dirt bike received minor injuries.
While a member was waiting for back-up members to arrive, the member observed a red Honda CR 450 motocross (no lights) approaching him, having departed from the location of the reported crime in progress. The suspect driver of the dirt bike swerved toward the memberās parked/stationary vehicle on the roadside, failed to stop after the member activated his emergency lights and continued until out of sight.
The officer did not pursue the dirt bike, instead proceeded to the direction to further investigate the initial crime in progress. The responding members soon determined that there was no mischief/burglary at the scene.
Members later located the dirt bike a short distance away from the initial contact scene. It had crashed because the suspect driver failed to negotiate a right hand turn. Members provided First Aid to the suspect driver, who was subsequently transported by BC Ambulance Service and treated at the Fernie Hospital. He was released a short time later.
Subsequent investigation of the crash scene determined that the driver was a Prohibited Driver as per the Criminal Code of Canada, and had a Suspended License as per Motor Vehicle Act.
Elk Valley RCMP continue with their investigation.
