Elkford CAO Curtis Helgesen resigns

After 13 years with the District of Elkford, the first six as Director of Financial Services and the last seven as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Curtis Helgesen has announced his resignation.

Helgesen has accepted the CAO position at the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako and will begin his new role, based out of Burns Lake, on July 1.

During his tenure with the district, Helgesen has championed numerous projects and has been instrumental in moving the organization forward toward a sustainable future. From project management on the award-winning Community Conference Centre, to enhancement of the district’s flood mitigation and trail network, to implementing the strategic and operational priorities of council, his contributions are countless.

His passion for the community extends far beyond the district’s boundaries and is evident in his work with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) International Sustainable and Inclusive Communities in Latin America Program, for which he and Elkford earned an FCM International Award nomination.

“On behalf of council, staff and the residents, I thank Curtis for his invaluable contributions to both the district and the community of Elkford. He has effectively and positively led us toward greatness and his leadership has shaped the solid foundation and success of our organization. He will be missed,” stated Mayor Dean McKerracher.

At this time, the District of Elkford has not made any decisions regarding the process for replacing the CAO.
