The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the April 8 District of Elkford council meeting.

BC Hydro Operations Update Meeting

A member of council will represent Elkford at the meeting in Cranbrook in May. The event will provide the opportunity to learn about current local and regional BC Hydro programs and activities.

District of Elkford Representatives to Sit on Teck’s Community Effects Advisory Committee

Two members of council will sit on the committee, which will serve to monitor and address the impacts of Teck’s temporary workforce accommodations on the community. Council’s involvement will contribute to the committee’s ultimate goal of insuring transparency, trust and understanding around the facility.

Audited 2018 Financial Statements

Each year, the District’s Financial Services Department prepares and presents audited financial statements to council. Council accepted the audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2018. These statements will be incorporated into the 2019 Annual Report.

District of Elkford Financial Assistance and In-Kind Grants Approved

Council has approved and supported a variety of District of Elkford grants for local groups totalling $17,505 and various in-kind support for projects and events throughout 2019.

Teck Coal Ltd. Operations Overview

A Teck representative provided the company’s 2018 operations summary, highlighting current initiatives, recent awarded achievements and future projects.

Bylaws

The District of Elkford Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw No. 818, 2019 was adopted. This bylaw will guide the district’s budgeted activities from 2019 to 2023.

The District of Elkford Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 820, 2019 received its first three readings. This bylaw will allow the District of Elkford to borrow funds from the Municipal Finance Authority in order to commence a road paving project in the Boivin North area of town. This area is the first portion of a broader paving plan that was set during the District’s Strategic Planning deliberations.

April 23 at 5:30 p.m.: Committee of the Whole 
(MLA Tom Shyptika presentation).

April 23 at 6 p.m.: Regular council 
unless otherwise noted above, these meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 816 Michel Road. All meetings are open to the public.
