Elkford hires interim Chief Administrative Officer

The District of Elkford will be appointing Terry Melcer as its Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) effective June 26.

Ms. Melcer will transition into the temporary role starting next week as current CAO Curtis Helgesen winds down his tenure with the district. The district has posted the CAO competition with a closing date for applications on June 28.

Ms. Melcer has been a resident of the Elk Valley since 1976. Following 20 years as a real estate conveyancer in local area law firms, she joined the City of Fernie in 2000. In 2007 Terry became the Director of Corporate Services for the District of Sparwood, retiring in late 2018 from the position of CAO.

In addition to eight years as CAO, her past roles have included Corporate Officer, Emergency Management, Approving Officer and handling Planning and Development matters.

“Ms. Melcer was the perfect choice to assist the district with the transition required while searching for Elkford’s next CAO,” stated Mayor Dean McKerracher. “She has worked closely with Elkford on numerous regional initiatives over the years, and is familiar with all of our operation, and has good relationships with the stakeholders here in the Elk Valley.”
