Elkford’s first Community Clean Up a success

The morning of April 14 was cold, snowy and wet. That didn’t stop the 100 or so volunteers who came out to help at Elkford’s first Community Clean Up.

After several years of a few individuals getting together to clean up the garbage on the sides of the highway that would show as the winter snow melted, it was discussed to try to organize a larger clean up and encourage more people to come out.

Tracey Halladay, Steve Woods and Steve Murphy did just that.

Expecting maybe a couple dozen people would show up, especially with the fresh snow overnight, they were immensely surprised and happy to see so many children, teens and adults come out to help. To all of you who came out, thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you and hopefully more next year.

Very big thanks to the following businesses and organizations for their support of Elkford’s Annual Community Clean Up.

Kootenay Market, Bearspaw Contracting, Elk River Crossing Car Wash, Nightcrawler 4×4/Hellbent Racing, Teck Coal Limited, Century Vallen, Kettle River Contracting, District of Elkford , EKCCU, Western Financial Insurance, Elkford Aquatic Center, Jason Meldrum, Elkford Lion’s Club, VMAC, SMS Equipment, Finning, Lordco Auto Parts, Napa Auto Parts, Westcor Construction Ltd, Fluor Canada Ltd, Rebecca Robinson-Bauer – Gold Canyon, Elkford Guiding, Elkford Alliance Church and 279 Elk Valley Cadets.

The organizers of Elkford’s Annual Community Clean Up would also like to issue a challenge to the other communities of the Elk Valley. Let’s make “Our Valley” one of the cleanest in B.C.
