44th annual Griz Days this weekend

Fernie’s wild and often wacky Griz Days is far from normal at the best of times. This year, it’s going to be modified with COVID-19 front and centre in planning of festival events, running from March 4 to Sunday, March 7.

Among modifications is the annual parade. Rather than the parade going to the masses; the masses are asked to go to the parade.

The Griz Days Drive-Thru Float Display will go from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Fernie Secondary School.

Jump in your car to come judge the Griz Days parade floats. The floats stay in one place as the community drives past voting online for the winners.

Please go here for a full schedule of events. Organizers note that all events are subject to change based on Provincial Health Officer COVID-19 guidelines.

What’s Griz Days without scoring a festival pin and helping local causes? Well, heads up – there’s a modification with the pins this year, too.

Because of COVID-19 organizers had to cancel some of the events that provide an opportunity for local non-profit organizations to raise much needed funds for their cause.

“As a result, we have decided to change up our pin format. This year instead of a cash prize, the winner will get to choose what non-profit organization they would like a $1,000 donation to go to. We have only printed a small batch of pins so get them while they last,” the festival website explained.
