Christmas Eve Zoom Mass in Fernie

By Mary Giuliano

For decades hundreds of people have flocked to Holy Family Parish Church to join together to celebrate Christmas.

This year it’s different as churches are not allowed to have people congregate physically due to the COVID-19 virus. However, there is reason to not still gather virtually to celebrate the birth of Christ together and we will.

So this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day don’t be disappointed as you are all invited to attend virtual celebrations from our beautiful church here in Fernie.

Father David will share a most wonderful and spiritual Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m., at midnight and at 9 a.m. on Christmas morning.

The ongoing preservation and restoration of Holy Family Parish Church which is considered a Fernie landmark is sure to add joy to your Christmas spiritual experience.  As you look around the stunning stained glass windows that have recently had installation of new clear laminated glass covers note the photo of the St. Nicolas of Myra window with the new glass cover over the original window donated by the Russian Catholics in 1912.

The generosity that produced this beautiful church at that time was continued this year with all but one window sponsored by individuals from town and from visitors to our church. As well, outside please note the very large window way up close to the bell tower has had the electrical work and lights behind it replaced so now the spectacular scene is visible in the dark.

I want to extend sincere congratulations to Shelley Lynch who is once again getting recognized for her writing and performance of original songs and say thank you for her assistance on Thursday evening as she will be singing at Mass from her home with her family.

Father David will commence Mass at 5 p.m. and everyone can enter using  Zoom by  4:45 p.m.

To register for the Christmas Eve Zoom Mass and other Masses please contact [email protected] as they will provide the link and all other information you require.

I look forward to this year’s spiritual celebrations as in previous years, it will be different however the spirit of the season is still powerful so please join us all are welcome.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all.
